3 Rules for Weddings and Elopements-from a Colorado Photographer

I often have discussions with couples about wedding rules and they ask me if this or that is okay.  After years of spending my weekends at weddings and seeing it all, I thought maybe putting a shortlist together will help you make some decisions for your day.

I LOVE that Jessye wore slippers. I would love to see more brides do this. You rarely see your beautiful and horribly uncomfortable shoes anyway.

 Rules for Weddings & Elopements

1.       This is the most important of all the rules.  THERE ARE NO RULES.  People are going to try and make you think otherwise, but I’m here to tell you, what they are telling you are merely suggestions and you can choose to take their suggestions or leave them.  Honestly and truly.  As long as you as a couple agrees on said decision, then that’s all that matters.  This is your day, not anyone else’s.

2.       I’m not sure why you are still reading this rule.  Please refer back to rule #1.  My only suggestion in planning is to make sure whatever decision you make you won’t regret it 10 years from now.  I mean sure, in looking back on my wedding, there are things I would totally change if presented with the chance to do it again, but any hard decision about the guest list, I still stand by 13 years later.  I had a small wedding, so I had to make cuts, and it didn’t make everyone happy.  Do you know who it did make happy though?  Jace and I.

3.       Okay, I’m serious this time, refer back to rule #1.

The whole point of this blog is to absolutely give you the power to make all the decisions that are right for you and your partner. You are not going to please everyone, so start by pleasing yourself. This is your party to throw for you as a couple, so it should reflect who you both are. The crazy thing about weddings is that people are offended by them because you aren’t doing it the way they would or think you should. There is always someone with something to say. Let them say it and enjoy your day your way.

And just remember, and I clearly cannot emphasize this enough. THERE ARE NO RULES.

Yes! Black heel high top Converse? Yes please!

Let’s have fun shall we?

I love hearing, “Wait! I have an idea!” Amelia wanted an old school pose and I was there for it!

They wanted to do couple photos at a brewery while playing cards because that’s their jam. AND I LOVED IT!
