Kate & Jonny | Maroon Bells, Aspen, Colorado | Engagement Photographer

We are a week away from February, and here I am blogging about my gorgeous fall Maroon Bells engagement session. I have the best intentions, for my blogs but here I am. I also have another confession to make. I am proudly born and raised, and I have never been to the iconic, and most photographed spot in Colorado, the Maroon Bells. It’s always been on my list and maybe, like my blogs, life gets in the way. Finally, this summer we committed to making a trip there. I was talking to Jonny and Kate about where they wanted to do their engagement session. I let them know I would be up there in the fall if they wanted me to squeeze a session in and they were absolutely game and I was beyond thrilled. I learned later that they had tried to see the Bells several times, but were never able to make it. This couldn’t be more perfect!

I’ve seen endless number of photos from Maroon Bells. After all, it is Colorado’s MOST photographed spot and after you have seen so many photos you wonder if it will really be that great in person. I’m here to tell you it’s absolutely stop you in your tracks, take your breath away, scrape your jaw off the floor show stopping. (Seriously, it’s the cat’s pajamas!) For us to get these shots, I knew we had to be the parking lot by 5:00am. Once the parking lot is full they don’t let anyone else up. So I picked up Kate and Jonny at 4:30am in their hotel. I had never met them before but instantly I fell in love with them. They were so nice and happy (I repeat it was 4:30am) and instantly starting joking around. I knew these were going to be my peeps, adventurous, joyful, and didn’t kill me for that obnoxious our the day. We got to the parking lot and it was still dark, as in I can see the Milky Way dark. We watched the night fade to morning and we headed up for our shoot.

The Bells put on quite the show. With the mountains changing from purple, to that beautiful pink alpenglow, showing off the beautiful yellow leaves of the aspen trees, I truly was blow away. That was until Jonny and Kate came in front of my lens. They laughed, they smiled and they were so madly in love. They actually dulled the Bells! To tell you that I’m excited for their wedding this summer is a 100% total understatement.
